Salvalacqua water economiser for gelato and ice cream machines
Save water and money in your business. Salvalacqua is a closed-circuit, closed-vessel cooling system for water-cooled gelato, ice cream and frozen yoghurt machines. The same water is cooled and used again, so drinking water is no longer sent down the drain.
Saving of drinking water used for cooling
Limescale generated in the circuit
Standard models across three lines
MIG Green Award: most sustainable innovation in the ice cream industry
The conscious use of water in gelato, ice cream and frozen yoghurt

Water-cooled gelato machines use water to carry heat away. Without an economiser, that is drinking water: used once, then sent to the drain.
Salvalacqua replaces it with a sealed loop. A chiller cools the water, a pump sends it to your machines and the same water comes back to be cooled again. Precious drinking water is no longer wasted, and no limescale is generated, cutting maintenance costs.
Salvalacqua is made in Italy by BRX Italia and is available in New Zealand from Majors Group.

Four reasons for choosing Salvalacqua
The environment-friendly choice
Precious drinking water is no longer wasted, for a new, sustainable economy.
Economic benefits
The closed-circuit, closed-vessel system no longer needs topping up, meaning a 100% saving of drinking water. It does not require a water softener.
Technical benefits
Production equipment works at peak efficiency with cooling at a constant 12–17 °C, for faster ice cream production. No limescale is generated, cutting maintenance costs.
Health protection
The closed circuit completely eliminates the risk of generating the legionella bacterium, which may proliferate in other systems where liquids are in contact with the outside.
A closed circuit that cools, pumps and recycles the same water
Salvalacqua is the cooling option for water-cooled refrigeration equipment: batch freezers, pasteurisers, display cabinets and refrigerators.

A sealed loop
A closed-circuit, closed-vessel system containing water, or water and antifreeze. It does not evaporate, never runs out and does not produce limescale.
The chiller
An indoor or outdoor chiller cools the water in the tank of the indoor Salvalacqua unit, keeping it at a constant 12–17 °C.
The inverter pump
The pump with inverter delivers the water from the Salvalacqua unit to your production machines, display cabinets, refrigerators and other equipment with water condensers.
Same water, recycled
Drinking water is no longer used. The same water is constantly recycled, with no need for a permanent connection to the water main.
Three lines, 15 standard models
Choose by where the heat can go and how much space you have. We help you match the economiser to the machines you want to connect.

SLQ line
Economiser with outdoor chiller. Two units: an indoor economiser with tank, inverter pump and manual bypass, and an outdoor chiller that releases the heat outside. SLQ V upright and SLQ T bench-height versions.

KUBE line
Economiser with indoor chiller. Two units, both installed indoors. The chiller needs an air inlet and an air outlet to outdoors, through a pipe, flue or window. Only a water connection is required, with no refrigeration connections.

COMPAT line
Economiser for small spaces. Storage tank and chiller in a single compact unit. It needs an unobstructed air inlet and vents hot air through a pipe leading outdoors. COMPAT 1, 2 and 3.
| Line | Chiller | Water flow | Cooling capacity | Power supply |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SLQ V / SLQ T | Outdoor unit | 1,000 to 3,500 L/h | 6.2 to 20.4 kW | 400 V, 50 Hz |
| KUBE V / KUBE T | Indoor unit, ducted to outdoors | 1,500 to 3,500 L/h | 7.1 to 20.2 kW | 400 V, 50 Hz |
| COMPAT 1 / 2 / 3 | Built into the unit | 1,200 / 2,000 / 3,000 L/h | 7.6 / 10.5 / 17.7 kW | 400 V, 50 Hz |
Production carries on during servicing

Manual bypass, standard on SLQ and KUBE. The bypass switches your machines to mains water during chiller servicing or a malfunction, by turning a manual lever.
Remote manual bypass, optional. Recommended when non-stainless SLQ and KUBE units are installed at a distance from the production room.
Automatic bypass, optional. An automated system that switches from the economiser to mains water in case of a malfunction.
Cooling for water-cooled machines and cabinets
One Salvalacqua unit can serve several machines at once. Ask us which of your machines are water cooled.

Batch freezers
Carpigiani batch freezers for artisan gelato, from countertop to high-output models.

Pasteurisers
Carpigiani pasteurisers for heating, ageing and holding your gelato mix.

ISA display cabinets
Gelato, ice cream and pastry display cabinets, made in Italy.

Customised solutions, even for large productions
Bespoke solutions
Salvalacqua can design bespoke solutions for artisan or industrial production facilities, depending on requirements, the space available and the number of appliances to be connected.
Design support
We help you choose the right economiser for the appliances you want to connect and the space available: three lines, 15 standard models or a bespoke solution.
Easy to install
Every product can be installed by a qualified electrician and plumber. KUBE and COMPAT need only a plumbing connection, with no refrigeration connections.

Salvalacqua: frequently asked questions
What is a water economiser?
A water economiser (also spelled water economizer) is a cooling system for water-cooled refrigeration equipment. Instead of running mains water through the machine and sending it to the drain, Salvalacqua cools the same water and sends it round again in a closed circuit.
How much water does Salvalacqua save?
The saving of drinking water used for cooling is 100%, because the same water is constantly recycled. The closed circuit does not need topping up and does not need a permanent connection to the water main.
Which machines can be connected to Salvalacqua?
Ice cream and gelato production machines such as batch freezers and pasteurisers, display cabinets, refrigerators and other equipment with water-cooled condensers. Tell us what you run and we will confirm what can be connected.
Does Salvalacqua need a water softener?
No. The system does not require a water softener. No limescale is generated in the closed circuit, which cuts maintenance costs.
What happens if the chiller needs servicing?
SLQ and KUBE models have a manual bypass as standard. Turning one lever switches your machines to mains water during chiller servicing or a malfunction, so production carries on. An automatic bypass is available as an option.
Which Salvalacqua model do I need?
It depends on the machines you want to connect and the space you have. SLQ uses an outdoor chiller, KUBE keeps both units indoors and COMPAT is a single unit for small spaces. There are 15 standard models from 1,000 to 3,500 litres per hour, plus bespoke solutions for large production. Call 0508 625 677 and we will size it with you.
What power supply does Salvalacqua need?
The standard models are listed for a 400 V, 50 Hz supply. Our team will confirm the electrical and plumbing requirements for your site before you order.
Who makes Salvalacqua and who supplies it in New Zealand?
Salvalacqua is a brand of BRX Italia, made in Italy. Majors Group is an authorised distributor for BRX Italia in New Zealand. Call 0508 625 677 or send us a message for pricing.
