Gelato World Tour returned to Japan in 2019, with twelve of the country’s top gelato artisans going head to head for the title of best gelato in Japan.
Two days of tasting in Yokohama
The event ran on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September 2019 at the Great Pier Hall, inside the Yokohama Port Osanbashi International terminal in Kanagawa Prefecture. Ticket presale opened on 1 July.

A ticket let visitors sample up to 4 of the 12 competing flavours and vote for their favourite. Those public votes were combined with the scores of a technical jury to decide the winner. The winning artisan earned a place in the Gelato Festival World Masters final, scheduled for Italy in 2021.
How the twelve finalists were chosen
The tour came back to Japan four years after its previous edition. Eleven of the finalists came through the Carpigiani Challenge semifinals, held on 3 and 4 April in Tokyo at the Carpigiani Japan branch. The twelfth place went to the winner of the Gelato Maestro Contest.
