Poland was once again in the spotlight as a European stop of the 2024 Gelato Festival World Masters, the international travelling competition in search of the world’s best gelato flavours. On 29 October, the event was held in Łódź at the headquarters of Carpigiani’s Polish distributor, where 15 gelato artisans competed for a place in the national finals in 2025.

How the challenge worked

The challenge is organised by Gelato Festival in collaboration with Carpigiani’s Polish distributor and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group. The chefs made their gelato in the laboratory provided by the organisers, and industry experts, local chefs and food journalists tasted and judged each entry. The three best flavours would go on to the Polish Finals of the Gelato Festival World Masters in 2025.

The championship behind it

The 2022-2025 edition marks the thirteenth year of the Gelato Festival World Masters. It debuted in Florence in 2010 as “Gelato Festival”, a local competition inspired by the first gelato recipe devised by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. It grew across Italy and Europe and, from 2017, to the United States, before becoming a world championship that involved more than 3,500 gelato makers in the 2017-2021 edition, won by Adam Fazekas of Budapest.
