Czech Republic was the next European stop of the new Gelato Festival World Masters season, the travelling competition searching for the world’s best gelato flavours. On 6 December 2022, 20 gelato artisans were due to compete at Almeco S.R.O in Prague for a place in the Czech national finals in 2024.
How it worked
The Gelato Festival Challenge is organised by Gelato Festival with Carpigiani Gelato University, the world’s most renowned school for successful gelato entrepreneurs, and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group, the leading trade show for artisan gelato. The tour’s mission is to spread the culture of artisan gelato across the globe.
On the day, competitors prepared their gelato in a kitchen supplied by the organisers. Industry experts, local chefs and food journalists then tasted and judged each entry. The three top flavours advance to the Czech Finals of Gelato Festival World Masters in 2024.
About Gelato Festival
Gelato Festival launched in Florence in 2010, inspired by Bernardo Buontalenti’s first gelato recipe of 1559. It spread across Italy and Europe, arrived in the United States in 2017 and held 80 festivals before becoming a global championship. The 2021 world championship ended in December 2021 with a win for Adam Fazekas of Budapest, after a record 3,500 gelato artisans were judged.
