Taipei City was the final stop on the selection tour of Gelato Festival World Masters, the travelling international competition that searches for the world’s best gelato flavours. The local round took place on March 12 at the Taipei International Bakery Show, with 24 gelato artisans lined up to compete for a place in the World Final in Las Vegas, scheduled for March 24 to 26, 2026.
How the competition works
Each competitor prepares their gelato in a kitchen provided by the organisers. Industry experts, local chefs and food journalists then taste and judge the entries. The best flavour advances to the World Final at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas.
The 2022 to 2026 championship is organised by Gelato Festival with Carpigiani Gelato University, the renowned school for gelato entrepreneurs, and Sigep by Italian Exhibition Group, the leading B2B show for artisan gelato, pastry, bakery and coffee.
Seventeen years of Gelato Festival
The 2022 to 2026 edition is the seventeenth year of the event, which began in Florence in 2010 as a local competition inspired by the first gelato recipe, created by architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. It expanded across Italy, then Europe, and reached the United States in 2017, before becoming a world championship. The 2017 to 2021 edition involved more than 3,500 gelato makers and was won by Adam Fazekas of Budapest.
